Concealer is a cosmetic product used on the face to conceal redness or dark undereye circles. Any concealer can work well, but to choose the best concealer, let's start with types of concealer.
Powder concealer
Advantage:
- it looks natural even after laying on mineral powder foundation or compact powder foundation.
- Lightweight, so must applying with brush
- look fairly natural at the end of the day
However, the powder concealer does not offer good enough coverage for very dark blemishes or very dark undereye circles.
Liquid concealer
Advantage:
- be a good choice to camouflage those bad undereye circles.
- are easy to apply with our fingers
- good to hide the large area like the dark circle under eyes because it makes the blemish harder to notice
Cream concealer
Advantage:
- some of them come in multi-tones such as shades of beige, yellow and mint green which offers you more options to hide certain problem areas such as pimples, scars and bruises on different parts of your face.
- blend better and stay longer
- good to hid something small like newly arisen pimple because it's easier to blend with the rest of your makeup
But the cream concealer is rather dry and thick, looking really cakey! You may better apply the cream concealer by using a brush rather than bare fingers.
Stick concealer
Advantage:
- more convenient to bring around but otherwise, the texture feels the same as cream concealer
- provide direct on-the-spot application.
- It is appropriate for mild pigmentations and discolorations. Apply it directly on larger spots or areas, and blend it carefully.
However, the stick concealer isn't appropriate for hiding dark circles under the eyes.
How to choose a concealer type
The choice of a concealer type also depends on the area you want to cover. The dry concealer is considered better for covering up the face in general whereas for the delicate areas such as under-eye area, the cream concealer should be preferred.
